Water-Energy-Environment Nexus Center
(WEENC)

What we do

The Nexus Water-Energy-Environment Center focuses on studying the interconnections between water, energy, and the environment as three essential resource sectors. The center aims to understand the complexities, synergies, and trade-offs involved in managing these resources. This interrelationship demonstrates how these three sectors are interdependent. The WEE Nexus Center emphasizes the importance of understanding these complex connections to achieve sustainable and equitable management of water and energy resources while preserving the environment.
This integrative approach seeks to create solutions for today's global challenges (limited resources, climate change, and sustainable development) and ensure resources for future generations. In addition to these three sectors, other components such as food, greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, ecosystems, and more can be included in these tri-sector or quad-sector nexuses, providing more comprehensive and integrated solutions to address issues, particularly in industries.

Areas of Activity of the Center

Research

The WEE Nexus Center is at the forefront of research on the complexities of the water-energy-environment nexus. Through studies, analyses, and complex modeling in research projects aimed at integrated and innovative solutions, the center provides a deeper understanding of these interconnections and their mutual impacts.

Education and Awareness

The center is committed to raising awareness about the importance of the nexus approach in resource management. Organizing workshops, seminars, and webinars to share cutting-edge knowledge in the nexus field with the academic and industrial community of the country is a priority for the center. The goal of this education is to promote a better understanding of the challenges and to present potential solutions.

Development of Tools and Methods

Researchers at the center are developing tools that can be used to assess and manage the water-energy-environment nexus. These tools include models, frameworks, and platforms such as LEAP and WEAP, which help users better understand interconnections and make informed decisions.

Collaborationand Partnership

The WEE Nexus Center collaborates with organizations, universities, and companies worldwide to share knowledge and best practices. The aim of this collaboration is to find comprehensive solutions to global challenges.

Providing Solutions and Policy Recommendations

Using its research, the center offers solutions and policy recommendations that can help achieve sustainable management of water, energy, and food resources while preserving the environment and addressing climate change challenges.

Database Creation

One of the center's activities is collecting, organizing, and analyzing data related to water, energy, food, environment, ecosystems, and pollutant emissions. The effort is to create comprehensive databases that serve as valuable resources for researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders.

Implementation of Pilot Projects

Conducting pilot projects in various regions to test and evaluate nexus approaches in the real world is one of the center's objectives. These projects help gain practical understanding of the challenges and opportunities in integrated resource management.

Objectives of the Center

Providing consulting services to process industries and organizations.
Offering specialized services to design and consulting companies.
Identifying needs and implementing research and development projects to address practical requirements.
Identifying and meeting the educational needs of the country's process industries.
Offering specialized training programs to develop skilled human resources.
Organizing national and international scientific conferences and seminars to promote interdisciplinary research.
